About McLeod’s

McLeod’s, at 29 Grant Street, Inverness, is a family-run eatery, with David’s wife and daughter involved in the chip shop too. Originally hailing from Aberdeen, David has over 30 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, starting out as a Chef in hotels at just 16 years of age. There are 10 team members all making sure the food you are being served is of the highest quality. All of our specials, coleslaw and tartare sauce are homemade on premises.

At McLeod’s Fish & Chips, we understand the importance of sustainability and that’s why we are working with the fight against overfishing. We will only use seafood which has been given the blue label from the Marine Stewardship Council and we are currently working towards being accredited with them.

We guarantee the boats that are catching our fish are working in sustainable waters and understand the importance of a quick journey from the sea to your plate. This is why there are minimal middlemen involved in our process, with our produce going from boat to supplier, to us. We state where our fish has come from daily on our blackboard, so our customers know that they can trust us.

All of our produce is as locally sourced as possible, with us having working relationships with Grants of Speyside, Hastie & Dyce Butchers and Willie Hendry Potatoes to name a few.

Equally important to us is our environment and that’s why all of our food packaging and cutlery, from Enviroware, is compostable or recyclable. The only plastic you will find in our chip shop is from our fizzy drinks bottles which are kept to a minimum with us stocking more cans. We estimate that we are 98% there with being fully sustainable, so you can have confidence that when you eat at McLeod’s you can do so guilt-free.

We have won Scotland’s Business Awards Best Chip Shop category in Inverness for 2018 and 2019, and last year won it for the whole of Scotland! It’s safe to say, our love and the care taken to ensure we provide our customers with the best possible experience at our takeaway is what got us to be the best fish and chips in Scotland. We will continue to take these steps to ensure the quality remains the same going forward.

What People are Saying

I had fish and chips from 1st Plaice a few ago and it was absolutely disgusting! You want some good fish and chips then I highly recommend this Mcleod's! I used to live in a fishing town where the fish was fresh in everyday and have to say this place is just as good if not better! 👌 Keep it up.

This place seems to only have locals who were bemused by the English tourists making it to this (slightly rough) part of town. Very good fish. Chips were good but nothing incredible. I was disappointed they had no cutlery to take away, meaning we had to eat the fish with our hands.

Brilliant chippy. They were very happy with the huge order (over £75) when a group of us were starting the NC500. Would go again.

Fish and chips were very good when I got them but after waiting patiently outside till end of estimated pickup time window my order was not ready and had to ask what had happened to it before they got it ready.
